Financial Side of Divorce is Conference’s Focus

The Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts (IDFA) will hold its annual national conference for financial professionals in early May in Nashville.

The Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts (IDFA) plans to take a deep dive into the financial side of divorce at its annual national conference in Nashville on May 6-8, 2024. The IDFA 2024 National Conference is for new and experienced Certified Divorce Financial Analysts (CDFAs®), Certified Financial Planners (CFPs®), and financial advisors.

“This year’s conference offers a comprehensive program designed to address the intricate financial issues of divorce,” says Carol Lee Roberts, president of IDFA. “Attendees will gain valuable insights from industry leaders on a broad range of topics, develop their skills through interactive sessions, and connect with hundreds of colleagues from across the country.”

The IDFA 2024 National Conference agenda features presentations and workshops led by top experts. Attendees will learn how to tackle crucial aspects of divorce settlements, navigate “gray divorce” (divorce later in life), understand Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs), and communicate with individual during emotional turmoil, Roberts says. Sessions will delve into financial planning strategies post-divorce and also explore many topics including cybersecurity, military benefits, and marketing for financial professionals in the divorce space.

“The primary residence and retirement assets are frequently the largest assets a couple has, and financial advisors need to know the specifics of dividing these assets incident to divorce,” says Roberts. “In addition, there are specific insurance, estate planning and capital gain considerations when a client divorces.”

“With the rate of divorce for those over age 50 increasing, it is essential that advisors are informed about the impact of divorce on their clients,” Roberts adds.

 Sharpen Skills, Earn CE Credits, Network

The IDFA 2024 National Conference offers many opportunities for attendees to hone their skills, stay current in the field, and network with hundreds of peers, says Roberts. “Interactive workshops and breakout sessions will equip participants with practical tools for managing high-conflict personalities, decoding complex tax returns in divorce cases, and leveraging family law software to streamline complicated situations.” The conference is approved for continuing education (CE) credits for both CFP® and CDFA® designations. Participants can also earn credits for recordings of select sessions.
