The CFP Board will host a webinar Jan. 30 for advisors to learn about about research its conducting to assess the effectiveness of holistic planning.

The board began the study in April 2022. It represents the first peer-reviewed academic effort to systematically evaluate how different financial planning approaches influence U.S. households, both in financial and non-financial terms.

This comprehensive, longitudinal study will compare the outcomes of households working with CFP professionals versus those using other financial advisors or managing their finances independently.

Kevin R. Keller, CAE, CEO of the CFP Board, said in a press release that the study would help quantify the tangible benefits that financial planning brings to clients and society.

Kevin Roth, Ph.D., the CFP Board’s managing director of research, leads the research team. The team also includes Stuart Heckman, Ph.D., CFP, from Texas Tech University; Emily Koochel, Ph.D., AFC, CFT-I, from eMoney; and Sonya Lutter, Ph.D., CFP, LMFT, also from Texas Tech University.
