How Likely Are You to Get in a Crash in Your City?

An Allstate report sees huge safety gains in some cities, while others have become much more dangerous.

When it comes to collision rates, the Northeast  leads the nation, with seven of the top 10 riskiest cities for drivers. But don’t count out the West Coast, where the remaining three in the top 10 are found.

That’s according to the 2025 Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report, which also reveals that Texas leads the nation in safe driving, with four cities in the top 20 safest.

The report, launched in 2005, this year found surprising shifts in driving safety across the country, according to Allstate.

Brownsville, Texas, has reclaimed its title as the safest city for driving, while Boston keeps the dubious distinction of being the most collision-prone city, where drivers are at almost 3.5 times greater risk of being in a collision than the national average.

Here’s the top 10 riskiest, out of a list of 200 metros, with the percentage figure representing relative collision  likelihood, compared to the national average:

  • 200. Boston, MA, 244.00 %
  • 199. Washington, DC, 172.40 %
  • 198. Baltimore, MD, 153.10 %
  • 197. Worcester, MA, 147.60 %
  • 196. Springfield, MA, 130.80 %
  • 195. Glendale, CA, 96.40 %
  • 194. Los Angeles, CA, 88.90 %
  • 193. Oakland, CA, 83.70 %
  • 192. Providence, RI, 79.70 %
  • 191. Philadelphia, PA, 78.30 %

The top 10 safest cities, according to Allstate:

  • 1. Brownsville, TX, -25.9 %
  • 2. Boise, ID, -24.1 %
  • 3. Fort Collins, CO, -21.0 %
  • 4. Cary, NC, -18.3 %
  • 5. Laredo, TX, -17.7 %
  • 6. Olathe, KS, -17.3 %
  • 7. Scottsdale, AZ, -17.1 %
  • 8. Port St. Lucie, FL, -15.3 %
  • 9. Madison, WI, -14.5 %
  • 10. Eugene, OR, -14.0 %

“No matter where you drive, the best way to protect yourself and others is simple: buckle up, stay focused and slow down,” Allstate vice president of auto claims Sandee Lindorfer said in the news release,. “These are three of the most effective ways to prevent crashes, and they cost nothing but attention.”

Texas leads in safety, as 21 cities, including major metros such as Austin, Fort Worth, Houston and Dallas, have risen the ranks over the past decade.

Washington, Oregon and Alaska have seen improvements in safety over the past  decade with some of the biggest declines in collisions in the country.

Bellevue, Washington, is the most improved city for collision safety, having risen 133 spots since 2015, Allstate said.

Conversely, several Midwestern cities fell significantly in safety ratings since 2015. Suffering the biggest drop was St. Louis, which fell 90 spots to No. 175. Des Moines, Iowa, fell 89 places to No. 108, and Kansas City, Missouri, slid 84 spots to No. 101.
